Behind The Scenes of "Pray For Silence"

When we set out to create the music video for Miss May I’s “Pray for Silence,” we knew the visuals had to feel as intense and unhinged as the track itself. The concept centered on a knight descending into madness—culminating in the shocking act of cutting off his own ear. To bring that vision to life, we combined practical studio work with heavy post-production wizardry.

We shot primarily on the Sony FX6 and RED Komodo, giving us flexibility between handheld grit and cinematic precision. To push the look further, we leaned on vintage Canon FD lenses, which added unique character and imperfections to the imagery. Those subtle flares and softer edges gave the footage an organic feel that paired well with the chaos of the storyline.

Everything was filmed in-studio, either against a white cyc wall or green screen. This blank canvas gave us full control over the atmosphere. We layered in texture using filters from Prism Lens FX, capturing some wild in-camera distortions and reflections that made the footage feel unsettling before any VFX work even began.

The knight sequences relied heavily on visual effects in post, from creating surreal environments to heightening the more gruesome elements of his breakdown. Balancing the gritty practical shots with stylized digital work was key—the goal was to keep it grounded enough to feel raw, but heightened enough to live in the same larger-than-life space as the band’s performance.

Shooting “Pray for Silence” was a balance of control and chaos. The gear, lenses, and studio setup gave us the tools to capture sharp performances, while the filters, VFX, and stylized choices injected the madness the concept demanded. It was an intense project from start to finish—exactly what you’d want when collaborating with a band like Miss May I.
